Free Shaktipat Spiritual Ajna Initiation
by Leo Volont

Do people still speak of Synchronicity? It's the idea that when one has a Spiritual Need, then the Universe will automatically supply for that need.
Back years ago I was in the University Library and happened upon this little dusty commentary on the Upanishads, and found a page where my eyes were drawn to the phrase: 'In the presence of a God or Saint the Ajna Chakra will open'.
Fine, I put the little book back on the shelf and continued my sauntering about. But that evening I passed a Lounge that had been taken over by an Old Kundalini Guru and his small cohort of followers. 'Odd coincidence', I thought and I walked into the room, and just as suddenly felt a pressure up in my forehead. Was that my Ajna Chakra opening?
Anyway, I pursued the Initiations, and while I learned a great deal about the Energy Flows and certain beneficial exercises, my Ajna Chakra probably was as open in the first five seconds as it ever would be. The Official Initiations may have been largely extraneous.
One never really knows about such things. We know what we have done, and have no idea how things might have turned out had we acted differently. Perhaps without the Official Initiation, my Ajna Chakra might have soon closed up again.
Oh, and there was a Secondary Initiation which opened another key little chakra. There I can seriously wonder whether I could ever have gotten to that one all by myself. It's the odd thing about Yoga, but it was that little secondary incidental Initiation that wasn't even announced or ceremonialized which turned out to be so very important. The Guru simply took me aside and said 'try this' and told me where to focus my attention for a moment, and just as quickly a new door was opened up.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Primary Initiation is our concern for now.
Anyway, let us pose the question to ourselves as to whether a person, in the absence of Guru an affordable Guru can manage to pick up a Shaktipat Initiation simply from proximity to a God or Saint. Spirituality is a Natural Process. There are no secret magic words. Just like the Little Upanishad Book said - bump into a Saint or a God and your Ajna will open. It might be just that simple.
Or just that complicated. Where does one find a Saint or a God? Well, Gods are encountered in one's Dreams, but that could take a significant Quest. It is great to start such Dream Quests, but it is difficult to make schedules around them. One can spend years chasing Gods in one's Dreams. But, yes, if you were to encounter a God in your Dreams, then your Initiation Problem would be solved - your Ajna Chakra would flare up with White Light, and you would wake up with a significant Chakra Afterglow Feeling.
But in the Day by Day world where does one meet a Saint? You know, it's probably not so extremely difficult. My idea is that there is at least one Saint for every 150 People 150 People being the natural unitary size of a Social Organization - the number of names and faces a typical person can sort through while remembering exactly who does what. So, it is my guess that every group of about 150 people can be entirely sufficient - having all necessary skills and capacities available to it - Leaders, Healers, Fighters, Priests, Saints, and Dog Catchers.
Anyway, go to places where Spiritual People gather and then relax your forehead and see if you feel any pressures that you ordinarily don't feel. Remember, it may not be entirely obvious who your Saint is. One of Saint Bernard's proteges became Pope. Looking at the two standing side by side, one would need a little bit of discernment to determine who was the Saintlier of the two.
What exactly does it feel like, the Initiation? Well, it's easy enough for me to say, but my Chakra is already open. But for the Un-Initiated it might be a bit different. I can reproduce the initial first pressure Feeling by pointing a pointy object or pyramid into my forehead. Apparently Spiritual Energy gathers above cones and tapered tips. Magnets also approximate the feeling.
How close does one need to get to the God or Saint? I wish I knew. So much of this could use a bit of experimentation. I just tried something this very moment. I thought about who would still be alive today who obviously has a great deal of Shaktipat - open Chakras and Overflowing Energy. Gurumayi came to mind. She is the Lady who took over from Old Guru Muktananda. She is easily the prettiest Guru there is. She is a fascinating person. When Muktananda died, her brother declared himself the new Leader of the Siddhayoga Organization. But nobody went to him and everybody went to her. She became Leader by popular acclamation. How often does that ever happen? Oh, it reminds me of what Alexander the Great said on his death bed when asked who would succeed him. He said, 'the Strongest'. Well, Gurumayi was 'the strongest' without even having to flex her little finger. Anyway, I sat still and thought of her Ajna Chakra for a moment and my head began to really buzz. It was a Remote Resonation. So actual physical proximity might not be of the most crucial importance. Maybe just the studied contemplation of Saintly Individuals from afar is enough to open the Ajna Chakra. Somebody needs to take on an experiment in this regards.
But we cannot ever entirely dismiss Physical Proximity, whatever else we find out about Remote Spirituality. There are simply too many Traditions that depend heavily upon Physical Proximity to be easily dismissive of them. In a crowd of Spiritual People, who doesn't feel a bump in one's own Energy? And whatever we may steal from afar, the actual Shaktipat touch of an authentic Shaktipat Guru can be quite startling in its intensity.
What should you do if you think you did pick up a Stray Initiation? It will be a pressure in your forehead, even just a slight pressure. The problem here is that just the Suggestion of a slight pressure might be enough to make you think you feel a slight pressure. It is like hysterical labor in soon-to-be new mothers. They think they feel labor until they really feel labor, and then they know the difference. But with these Slight Pressures of Initiation, you will simply have to work with them until you realize you got a Sure Thing.
If you get a Real Initiation Pressure then it will fix and increase as you contemplate it. Morning, Noon, and Night - focus on it for a few minutes, to assure that it doesn't close back up. Unless nurtured with Attention, a freshly opened Ajna Chakra will close anyway, that is what they say.
Now, with a Real Initiation SOMETHING happens after a week or two. It is not wise to say what it is, not to the general public. It is necessary to hold back some information for the sake of evaluation and testing. The way it was explained to me by my Guru, who was a decent and honest man considering that he was a Professional Guru, is that sometimes for some people the Initiations don't 'take' for some reason or another. So the Guru asks a question of the New Initiate for which there is no studied answer - the young man won't know the answer just because he read all the books.
Oh, do allow me to finish this essay with a point about Paying Money for Spiritual Benefits. A favorite phrase among the New Age Business Plan Set was 'One does not value what one does not pay for', or, 'one will only appreciate a spiritual truth if one pays for it'. Well, that's kind of tantamount to saying that unless one pays $300 dollars for the weekend seminar, not including the Hotel Room, that one will not feel an electric shock if one sticks one's fingers into the light socket. If getting shocked does not depend on money, then why should one have to This is spam! one's house before one can feel a Spiritual Truth. Will one appreciate it more? Well, if one finds a stamped and certified bar of gold laying in the street, does one need to pay somebody for it before one can grab it up and hide it away and look around to see if anybody saw you pick it up? No. One knows the value of things apart from money.
Five of my favorite cats I never paid a penny for.
Now, yes, the New Age counts upon indoctrinating people to the idea that spending money is good for their souls. And, yes, some people are the type who need to justify their expenditures. 'Sure, my new red fishing pole catches more fish then my old scratched up pole'. Then there are people will sit through a bad movie because they paid ten dollars for the ticket. Or people who will read a bad book from cover to cover because it cost them $25. 'I paid full price for it and so I am going to enjoy it whether I like it or not'. But there is also the phenomena of Buyer's Remorse. People eventually begin feeling stupid if they have been made to pay for worthless value, or for things they could have easily enough gotten for free.
So, no, your Spirituality will not be worth any less to you because you don't pay anybody for it. Indeed, doing all of the footwork yourself may make it even more valuable for yourself like knitting your own sweater.
